[translate lang=english]Next week I promise not to use a youtube video.
But for this week, here’s a clip from the DVD Sphinctour (gotta love that name) from the almighty Ministry. I remember being just a little too young to convince my folks to let me go to the Ballroom in DC for this concert, and man am I disappointed I missed this spectacle. As you’ll note if you click, the dvds are out of print and only selling for big money. Last year you could find them for half this, but I still haven’t bought one yet. (sadface)
As you can see, they were one hell of a band – especially in the mid 90’s. Why isn’t there more musick like this being made these days?

[translate lang=english]HMT stands for Heavy Metal Tuesday so get excited! I was not heavy metal in the slightest this weekend, instead I celebrated my 30th birthday (not metal) by going to Monterey (not metal) because I wanted to check out the aquarium (awesome but not metal) and spent my actual birthday eating vegetarian Chinese food w. some good friends and drinking fancy drinks (not metal, not metal, not metal).
So instead, here is something METAL – the almighty GWAR perform most of their songs from their debut album Hell-O in less then 9 minutes. I saw them perform this live a few years ago and it was hands down the highlight of the evening.
GWAR is one of my favoritest bands of all time. I’ve been listening to them since I was 12 or 13 in high school, and they were the first show I ever got to see on a school night (GWAR and the Misfits – 1998). I came back the next day covered in fake blood and have been hooked ever since. One of my favorite high school memories is looking up on stage and seeing a Tyrannosaurus Rex battle a 12-foot tall robot, while a guy with condom on his head tried to mediate, the whole time a woman in metal lingerie whipped a mace around as naked guys in jock straps (slaves) hooked up tubes to the monsters to facilitate the inevitable fake blood. Oh, and the band was on stage in crazy costumes, singing about being from outer space and wanting drugs. It’s as juvenile and as brilliant as it sounds.
Hell-O! is far from their best album, but it did set the stage for many obscenities to come, and that is priceless in my book.

Maybe this’ll be a thing. Maybe it won’t. Regardless, here’s your first Heavy Metal Tuesday!
Today it’s going to be personal-like (as in, all about me). I recently found my sophomore high school picture that I had grabbed from a photo album when I visited my folks in my childhood home for the last time (I wrote an emo blog post about it that I won’t link to, hah!):
My first attempt at facial hair
Also, here’s a version of Ants from this Sunday’s Severe Bass and the Bad Decisions band practice!!!!. This was recorded at our practice space with two mics directly into my Fast Track Pro into REAPER. The quality isn’t great (the vocals are really quiet unfortunately), but it’s the first recording of this song being played with a band since the summer of 1999, and I think it’s halfway decent considering it’s just two cheap vocal mics hanging from the ceiling.
(BTW, streaming it usually lessens the quality quite considerably, right clicking to save and then playing it in the audio player of your choice will sound much better!)
